Marquez extends Honda contract

Two-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez has extended his contract with Repsol Honda for two years, the team announced on Thursday. The extension follows that of Spanish teammate Dani Pedrosa, who also extended his contract until the end of the 2018 season. Marquez, 23, world champion in 125cc (2010) and Moto2 (2012) won the MotoGP title in his first season in 2013 and defended it the following year. He finished third last season after suffering an injury lay off. "I am very happy to announce my renewal with HRC," said Marquez ahead of Sunday's Grand Prix at his hometown track in Barcelona where a win would put him back atop the world championship standings.
