Suzuki rider Maverick Vinales led the way in the first practice session for the Catalan GP at Barcelona, dislodging reigning champion Jorge Lorenzo from the top spot in the closing stages. Lorenzo was the man to beat practically throughout the 45-minute session, working his way down to an early benchmark of 1m42.143s in the opening stages. That was enough to put him 0.820s clear of factory Yamaha teammate Valentino Rossi, although the Italian chipped away at Lorenzo's advantage in the final 10 minutes. Rossi had reduced the gap to just under half a second before Vinales thundered to the top of the timing screens on a 1m42.065s, beating Lorenzo by 0.078s with five minutes left on the clock....
