Defending MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo was quickest on the opening day of testing at Losail in Qatar on Wednesday. The Spanish Yamaha driver narrowly edged out last year's best rookie award winner Maverick Vinales of Suzuki, while the ever-present Valentino Rossi fell on his out-lap, but recovered to be third fastest on the other Yamaha. Ducati's Andrea Iannone was fourth on the timesheets, followed by Desmosedici riders Scott Redding, Hector Barbera and Andrea Dovizioso. Iannone's teammate Andrea Dovizioso followed in seventh, while LCR's Cal Crutchlow was the fastest Honda driver across the line in eighth.
