Petrucci grabs spotlight on day one down under
For the second time in 2016, Pramac Ducati's Danilo Petrucci finished a day of official MotoGP testing on top of the timesheets. The previous occasion had been day two at Sepang, when the Italian set the pace as red flags were raised for Loris Baz's accident, after which the soft rear tyre was withdrawn. Wednesday at Phillip Island then saw Petrucci shoot to the top when rain showers clearedm offering the chance to ride on slick tyres. The Silverstone runner-up set a best lap of 1m 31.764s, which was 3.5s off the (Bridgestone) race lap record but a substantial 0.7s clear of next best Maverick Vinales (Suzuki).
