The opening day of the second 2016 MotoGP test is underway at Phillip Island in Australia. The test has got off to a wet start, with only ten riders on track so far. Marc Marquez took over at the top from Cal Crutchlow when the weather improved, only for the rain to return. New Marc VDS signing Jack Miller is due back on track after missing the Sepang test due to injury. Aprilia are not present, having instead elected to debut the new RS-GP at a private test in Qatar.
