This table summarises the finishing positions that will see either Valentino Rossi or Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo crowned world champion at Valencia on Sunday. Rossi leads Lorenzo by seven points heading into the season finale. However the Spaniard has won six races to Rossi's four, meaning in the event of a points tie, Lorenzo would be champion. It is not yet known if Rossi will start from last place on the grid - as a result of his Sepang penalty points - with an announcement on the Italian's appeal due to be made by Friday. Rossi is fighting for a tenth world title and Lorenzo his fifth.
