Rossi ninth, but sincerely quite happy

Valentino Rossi was left seven places and 0.6s behind title rival Jorge Lorenzo on day one of the Australian MotoGP. But the final Friday practice positions didn't reflect the true pace, with all eight riders ahead of Rossi fitting a new rear tyre in the closing stages of FP2 - including three competitors with access to the special Open class soft tyre.
