Lorenzo surprised by practice pace

Jorge Lorenzo says he "didn't expect to be so competitive" as he shrugged off his shoulder injury to set the pace at Motegi on Friday. The Yamaha rider crashed last Saturday when he was putting in the laps on mini-bikes in preparation for the MotoGP triple-header. X-rays revealed that he did not need an operation but he did arrive in Japan with his arm in a sling. Despite the injury he showed impressive speed in Friday's practices, setting the pace in both.
