Marc VDS Racing's Scott Redding achieved his team's aim of being within a second of the fastest time during the opening night of testing in Qatar. Redding lapped in 1m 56.112s to complete day one 0.847s down on Ducati rider Andrea Iannone's best lap and just over half a second behind Repsol Honda's Marc Marquez, who was fastest of the riders unable to use the soft option Bridgestone tyre in third.
